Where does Griffin's Gold pay its biggest wins?

In the Bonus Game. Three Griffin Emblems start 10 free spins, in which a roaming wild stays on the reels, moves before each spin and adds 1 to its multiplier after each spin in which it joins a win, earning an extra free spin too. No base-game win in our log carried a multiplier. In our 750 spins at €1.00, the best base-game spin paid 25.5x, while the best bonus round paid 167x after growing from 10 free spins to 18.

Nine lines and an emblem that is scatter and wild at once

Ruined white columns, overgrown with moss and topped by stone griffins, stand either side of a gold reel frame with a Greek key border and the winged Beat the Beast logo above it. The board is 5x3 with 9 paylines: three straight rows, two that dip or rise across the middle reels, two V shapes and two that step from corner to corner. Wins pay from the leftmost reel with no gaps, and only the longest win on each line counts.

The griffin itself, orange and red with blue-tipped wings, tops the table: 1.50 for just two, 10.00 for three, 50.00 for four and 150.00 for five, at the default €1.00 bet. A golden griffin statue on a red tile pays 0.50, 5.00, 25.00 and 50.00 for the same counts. Below them come a lyre, a crossbow and a feather, then stone card ranks from A to 10, whose values sit further down a rules page our capture did not reach.

Griffin's Gold two griffin symbols win
Media spin 1 at a €1.00 bet: two griffins at the left of the top row are the only lit symbols, and the payout field shows €3.00, which is 3x the bet.

The Griffin Emblem, a gold medallion with a rampant griffin, does two jobs in the base game. It is a wild that substitutes for any other symbol, and it is a scatter that pays anywhere on the reels: 2.00 for three, 20.00 for four, 200.00 for five. Three of them start the Bonus Game, and each of our 5 triggers collected that 2.00 scatter win on the way in.

Most base-game hits are small. In our log, 120 of the 221 base-game wins paid 0.5x, half the stake back, and the median win across all 750 spins was 0.5x. The best base-game spin, 25.5x on spin 103, was four golden griffin statues on line 8, worth 25.00, plus 0.50 for the first two of them on the top line.

Free spins where the wild walks and its multiplier climbs

The Bonus Game opens with 10 free spins, and the sky behind the columns turns from day to sunset. Its engine is the Roaming Wild. It substitutes for any symbol, stays on the reels until the round ends and moves to an adjacent position before each new free spin. It also carries a multiplier that starts at 1 and rises by 1 after every spin in which it is part of a payline win, and that same spin adds one free spin to the round. In our log, though, no wild climbed past x5.

Griffin's Gold three Griffin Emblems bonus trigger
Our bought round begins: three Griffin Emblems in the middle row, the counter at 0/10 and €2.50 in the payout field, with €4,812.00 left in cash after the €125.00 price.

How a roaming wild first appears is on a part of the rules page we did not capture. In our five natural rounds the timing varied: three had one from the first free spin (one of them two at once), one only from its third and one from its fifth, and three rounds finished with two wilds on the reels.

The rules say that roaming wilds multiply any win in which they are included. What happens when two share a line is not on the part we captured, but in our log their values were multiplied together. On the sixth free spin of the round from spin 336, wilds at x3 and x2 were part of one win, and the server paid it at x6. Our bought round shows the same thing on a larger scale.

Griffin's Gold roaming wilds x20 multiplier
Free spin 17 of 21 in our bought round: two Qs and two roaming wilds share one line. A moment earlier the wilds read x4 and x5; now every tile on the line is tagged x20 and the line shows 40.00.

Five bonus rounds and a long slide: our 750 spins

Our 750 paid spins at €1.00 began from the demo's €5,000.00 balance and returned €646.50 on €750.00, or 86.2%. For a game rated very high volatility that is a small sample, and the gap to the published 96.14% says nothing about the long run.

Running balance of our 750 paid spins at €1.00: €5,000.00 at the start (dashed line), minus every stake, plus every win. The spins were played in more than one demo session; the line counts them as one. Pink dots mark the spins that started free spins.

226 spins paid something, 30.1% of the session; 12 of those wins reached 10x, 1 reached 50x, and the longest losing run was 18 spins. The balance peaked at €5,024.00 on spin 45, 4 spins after the first bonus. From there our running balance slid for 522 spins to its low of €4,825.50 on spin 567, the spin before the best bonus of the session, and it finished at €4,896.50.

The 5 bonus rounds make an instructive set. The first, on spin 41, ran 12 spins and paid 30.5x. The second, on spin 323, ran 14 but paid only 9.5x: its single wild reached x5 by the sixth free spin and then sat on the board for the last nine without joining another win. 13 spins later the third, on spin 336, grew to 15 spins and paid 39x. The fourth, on spin 568, had two wilds from its first free spin, grew to 18 spins and paid 167x, the best result of the session. The fifth, on spin 718, found its only wild on the fifth free spin, never added a spin and paid 13x.

Our bought Bonus Game at a €1.00 bet: it started with 10 free spins, extra spins pushed the counter to 30, three roaming wilds were on the reels by the end, and the round paid €202.00.

What 125x buys, and what the Reborn build added

BUY FEATURE opens a dialog with one option, the Bonus Game, at 125x the stake: €125.00 at the default bet. The bought round is certified at 96.50%, compared with 96.14% for the game played spin by spin.

The BUY FEATURE dialog at a €1.00 bet: Bonus Game for €125.00, with Yes and No under Confirm purchase and €4,937.00 in the cash field.

Those two percentages describe the version on Thunderkick's game page, which is what this demo runs. Thunderkick also certifies versions at 94.16%, 87.18%; which one a casino offers is the casino's choice, and some markets do not allow the feature buy at all.

The buy is what the 2024 Reborn build brought. We found no Thunderkick announcement explaining Reborn, but its eCOGRA test reports describe this one as a fresh build of the 2020 game, certified in its own right under its own game ID. It adds the buy, with a separate RTP, and extra RTP versions, while theme, grid, 9 paylines and features stay the same.

The bonus we bought in the media session cost €125.00 and paid €202.00, and the round tripled in length, from 10 free spins to 30. It is one draw, shown for the roaming wilds at full stretch, not as a guide to the 96.50% figure.

Kraken, Cerberus, the griffin and the dragon that came later

Thunderkick called the original Griffin's Gold the fifth and final slot of its Beat the Beast series in 2020. It was not quite final: a sixth, Dragon's Wrath, followed in 2024, and the loading screen of this Reborn build carries a Dragon's Wrath banner marked OUT NOW.

Kraken's Lair opened the series in February 2020. It has the same 5x3 board with 9 paylines and the same very high rating, caps a round at 7,777x and has no feature buy. Its RTP is 96.12%.

Cerberus' Inferno, from June 2020, follows the same pattern with a 6,666x cap, an RTP of 96.15% and no buy either. Our 750 spins there returned 87.1%, against 90.8% on Kraken's Lair and 86.2% here.

Of the three, Griffin's Gold has the highest cap, 22,222x, and the only feature buy.

What we make of Griffin's Gold

This is a bonus-first slot. The base game hands back half the stake on most of its wins, and 25.5x was the best it managed in our 750 spins. The free spins are a different game: every spin in which a roaming wild joins a win buys another spin and lifts that wild's multiplier, which never passed x5 in our log, and when two of them land on the same winning line their values multiply. So a round can stretch from 10 spins to 30, as our bought one did, or fade out with an x5 wild that never finds a line, as our second natural round did.

Patience is part of the deal: our natural bonuses came up to 282 spins apart, and the balance shrank in between. In the demo, a bought round shows the wilds at work without that wait.

Before you face the griffin

Short answers to the questions this game raises most often.

Does it cost anything to spin Griffin's Gold here?

No. The window on this page runs Thunderkick's own play-money client, which opens with €5,000.00, takes no deposit and pays nothing real. Bets run from €0.10 to €100.00 in 14 steps, and the game starts at €1.00.

What does the Griffin Emblem do?

In the base game it is wild and scatter at once. As a wild it stands in for any other symbol; as a scatter it pays anywhere on the reels, 2.00, 20.00 or 200.00 at a €1.00 bet for three, four or five. Three of them start the Bonus Game with 10 free spins.

How high can the roaming wild multiplier climb?

The rules start it at x1 and add 1 after each spin in which it joins a payline win, and the part we captured names no ceiling. Still, no single wild in our log passed x5, even when an x5 wild joined further wins. Two on one line multiply: we saw x6 (x3 and x2) and x20 (x4 and x5).

Where does the 22,222x figure come from?

From the configuration of Thunderkick's demo server, which sets the ceiling at 22,222x the bet: €22,222.00 at the €1.00 default stake. It is a ceiling, not a target: our best result in 750 paid spins was 167x, from the free spins that started on spin 568.

What changed when Griffin's Gold was reborn in 2024?

According to Thunderkick's test reports, the Reborn build is the 2020 game certified again as a separate version, under a new game ID. What it adds is the 125x Bonus Game buy, certified at 96.50%, and further RTP versions (94.16%, 87.18%). The theme, the 9 paylines, the roaming wilds and the multiplier stay as they were.

Is Griffin's Gold the last Beat the Beast slot?

It was meant to be. Thunderkick called the original the fifth and final slot of the series in 2020, but a sixth, Dragon's Wrath, followed in 2024. This site also covers two earlier games of the series, Kraken's Lair and Cerberus' Inferno, with their own demos and logged sessions.
