How much of the grid does the Nuke double in Hot Potato Battleground?
All of it. The Nuke is the red button symbol: once an explosion detonates it, it waits for the Avalanche sequence to end with no further win and no Air Support or Radar to come, then doubles every multiplier on the grid and gives a respin. In our log the blast covered all 49 cells, so empty ones became x2, and only Chefs, Scatters and feature symbols stayed. Across our 750 paid spins it fired 15 times, and one respin paid: on spin 541 a cluster of 5 low symbols worth 0.20 sat on x4 cells adding to x20, for 4.00.
Each winning cluster leaves a potato that explodes
The camp kitchen fills seven columns of seven: chocolate bars, fries, hot dogs, apples and water bottles at the bottom of the paytable, sandwiches above them and the Chef, in sunglasses and a toque, at the top. Clusters count from five symbols of one kind, joined side by side or up and down. Five Chefs pay 1.00 on a €1.00 stake, nine 3.00 and 25 or more 100.00. Sandwiches pay half that from nine upwards, 1.50 to 50.00, and five of any lower food bring 0.10 or 0.20.
Each winning cluster vanishes in an avalanche and leaves one of three potato Wilds, picked at random. The Potato Wild blows up a 3x3 square, the General Potato Wild a 5x5 one, and the Sniper Potato Wild a full row and a full column through its cell. In our 750 paid spins the clusters made 236 of the first, 105 snipers and 63 generals. Wilds can also land on their own, and they always go off. They substitute for everything but the HOT Scatter.

Away from the edges a square blast covers 9 cells, a cross 13 and a general's square 25, and near a side the squares lose whatever falls off the grid. Blasts in our logs spared only one paying symbol, the Chef, which the rules protect. Of the 111 base-game wins paid on marked cells, Chef clusters made only 11, yet they took 64.00 of the 199.10 that the multipliers added.
x2 for the first blast, doubled by each one after it
An explosion leaves its cells marked: x2 the first time, double that whenever another blast covers them again, so a cell needs seven blasts to read x128, the ceiling. When a cluster wins on marked cells, the values under it are added together, not multiplied, and the win is paid times the sum. On our best paid spin, 361, three small wins and three Potato Wilds came first. Then 6 Chefs worth 1.50 landed on cells of x4, x2, x2, x2 and x2 plus one bare cell, which added up to x12 and paid 18.00.
Outside the free spins the grid lasts one paid spin. Of our 750, 174 showed any multiplier at all, and 31 got a cell to x16 or beyond. A cell reached x128 twice, and those spins paid just 10.30 and 10.70: a big number needs a cluster on top of it before the spin ends.

Between free spins nothing clears the grid, but each round starts from an empty one, and in all four of ours at least the first 2 free spins paid nothing.
Payouts in our three logged rounds ranked in the same order as their grids. Our first purchase ended with 43 of the 49 cells marked and x128 at the top, the second with 38 and nothing above x16, and the natural round with 22 and x16 at most.
A turret, a crosshair, a radio, a dish and a red button
Five feature symbols drop in with the food and do nothing until an explosion detonates them. The turret, Land Support, then fires three Potato Wilds into the refilled grid, and the crosshair, Sniper Support, three Sniper Potato Wilds. Only one of each can be active at a time. The walkie-talkie and the satellite dish wait until the avalanche has nothing left: Air Support drops five Scout Wilds, up to three times, and the Radar turns one low symbol into a better one in every position.
At least one feature fired in 55 of our 750 spins, two together in 24 and three in 6. The Radar was the busiest, in 29 spins, then Air Support in 18, the crosshair and the Nuke in 15 each and the turret in 14. Those 55 spins returned €236.00 of our €384.50, and 7 of the 9 spins worth 10x or more were among them. The other 695 averaged 0.21 a spin.

The Nuke acts last, and its biggest doubling took a cell from x32 to x64, on spin 435.

That doubling rarely paid, because the respin has to land a cluster on the doubled cells. Only the respin on spin 541 did, and in the base game a Nuke grid is gone at the next spin. Together the 15 Nuke spins paid €49.50, €6.50 at most on spin 435, and the 6 spins with three features €47.70, the best of them €14.10 on spin 241.
Ahead only on spins 35 to 39, and at the lowest point after all 750
Thunderkick's 94.23% was well out of reach: €750.00 of €1.00 stakes returned €384.50, or 51.3%. Spins 35 to 39 were the only ones that left the balance above €5,000.00, by 3.00 at most after spin 36.
- 750paid spins at €1.00 in the demo
- 51.3%of the stakes paid back
- 18.8xbest single spin
- 1free spins round triggered
Just 23.3% of spins won anything, and the median win gave back exactly the stake. Nothing reached 50x. The top nine sat between 10x and 18.8x and paid €120.10 together, under a third of the return, while the dry runs between wins stretched to 19 spins.
The only natural Bonus Game came early, on spin 57. Its first 7 free spins paid nothing. The eighth paid 0.60, and a turret's Wilds helped two more wins of 3.20 and 6.00, so the round came to 9.8x the stake. No spin after 739 won anything, and the balance closed on its low of €4,634.50.
Eight free spins for 100x the bet, or a BET+ mode on every spin
A single Bonus Game card fills the buy menu, priced at 100x the bet and rated by Thunderkick at 94.50%, above the 94.23% of ordinary spins. Two builds exist, this one and 92.23%, and casinos pick which to offer. There is no 96% version, and in some countries the buy and BET+ may be missing.

| Option | Price | At €1.00 | RTP of the buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bonus Game | 100x | €100.00 | 94.50% |
We bought it three times, twice as control purchases and once on film, and every round ran 8 spins without a retrigger. They paid €109.70, €85.50 and €89.80, €285.00 on €300.00, and each was decided by one or two wins on a grown grid. The first turned on a cluster of six worth 0.30 that covered two x32 cells, two x16, one x2 and one x128, x226 together, for 67.80. The second ended with 6 Chefs on x44 for 66.00.

Free spin 6 of our filmed round ran for over a minute on its own.
BET+ raises the cost of every spin for a better chance at a feature, in five modes. Bonus Boost at 1.7x makes the Bonus Game 4 times as likely, Bonus Boost Plus at 3x makes it 10 times as likely, and Bonus Boost Extreme at 10x brings it on average once every 10 spins. The Nuke mode at 3.5x puts a Nuke symbol on the screen every spin, and Battle Mode at 10x guarantees at least 3 activated features. Thunderkick rates all five between 94.29% and 94.42%, above ordinary spins. With Nuke respins paying so seldom in our log, a Nuke on screen is a long way from a win.
The original Hot Potato, which Thunderkick's posts say this game brings back, already had a seven-by-seven grid. New here are the three Wilds, the five feature symbols, the Chef's protection and the BET+ modes.
Greedy Pumpking, released in October 2026, is the nearest neighbour on this site, with a 94% build and the same 10,000x cap. Its multipliers ride on Wilds that merge, while here they sit in the cells and add up under a win.
Most multiplied grids in the base game go to waste between small wins. The free spins keep what the grid gains, and in all three of our purchases most of the money came from a single cluster on top of it.
Five free spins on paper, eight in the demo
We checked every answer against our server log.
Where does the figure of five free spins come from?
From Thunderkick's information sheet, version 1.0, which gives 5 free spins and +5 for a retrigger. The rules screens in the demo say 8 and +4, and all four of our bonus rounds, one natural and three bought, began with 8 spins. None of them retriggered.
Are the multipliers cleared after every paid spin?
Yes, in the base game: none of our 750 paid spins began with a marked cell. The Bonus Game starts on a clean grid too, and from there the values carry over between free spins until the round ends.
Can an explosion destroy the Chef?
No. Thunderkick's rules shield High Pay symbols from explosions, and no blast in our logs removed a Chef. Everything else on a covered cell is destroyed and refilled from above, except the HOT Scatter and the feature symbols.
Where does this game sit in the Hot Potato line?
Thunderkick's posts present it as the Hot Potato coming back, part of the same franchise but with no number in its name. Hot Potato came out in November 2023, and Hot Turkey, built on the same core, is its Christmas version, not a sequel. Neither is reviewed on this site.
What does Battle Mode guarantee?
At least three activated features on every spin, for 10x the bet, rated at 94.42%. In our 750 ordinary spins three features came together only 6 times, and never four or five.
How often did a cell reach x128 in our log?
Twice in the paid spins, on spins 342 and 627, and those two paid only 10.30 and 10.70. Our first purchase had one more, under the cluster of six worth 0.30 whose cells added up to x226.
